America and The Bomb

I caught the end of a documentary about the discovery of nuclear fission. Einstein and other scientists in America wanted the US to develop an atomic bomb before Germany to deter Germany from using an atomic bomb that they were (presumably) developing. But what actually happened is that the Allies defeated Germany before the atomic bomb was completed. After spending billions of dollars for the atomic bomb, the US military decided to trade (71 000) civilian lives for their soldiers lives and drop the bomb on Hiroshima. Many scientists were appalled. They never intended for the bomb they created to be actually used.

My pacifism would never allow me to work on such a project, or even suggest it. History shows that I am right. No military is responsible enough to have atomic weapons.
