The other day I ran my French essay through fmt on Solaris, and printed the essay out. I noticed an accented character was missing, and another, and another. Apparently when encountering a character with a high bit set fmt is like, “Hmmm…. What is this strange character. I don’t know what it is, so I’m sure it is not important. I guess I better get rid of it.” Grr…. I rushed to add them all back in and was late for class.
